WASH purpose is to protect universal access to vital water services and provide clean drinking water. Water is perhaps the most basic resource: It is essential for life, crucial for relieving poverty, hunger, and disease and critical for economic development. There is no life on earth without water. The water falls freely from sky but incurs significant costs when there is need to clean, store and distribute it.
The other purpose of the WASH is to reutilise the water and make proper sanitation system to avoid wastage of water and aware the people about the worth of water.
There is now growing acceptance of the importance of hygiene and sanitation activities in reducing disease transmission. Hygiene and sanitation intervention first and foremost should be designed on the basis of field assessment of the highest risk factors. The improved sanitation can also bring other non-health benefits to affected populations.
The proper sanitation system and hygiene is the one of the major aspects of WASH, which has greatest potential to reduce the transmission of water related diseases.
Need for WASH
Over a billion of people live without safe and reliable water. Water is the basic right of every one, water is one of the essentials of life but as the dynamics shows that in future dispute will arise between people on water, the key policies of world bank to privatise the trade and services it seems difficult for low-economy people to have access to the drinking water because the developing countries need high budget to meet the criteria of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
According to WHO, 2.3 billion people suffer from diseases because of having no access to clean and drinking water. Without water people die, but if it is clean and available in sufficient quantities, water can lead to healthier, more productive individuals and communities. Deaths from waterborne diseases have been estimated 2-12 millions people per year with diarrhea, malaria and cholera being the main killers.
On the other hand 2.6 billion of peoples are lacking access to the basic sanitation facility which include the domestic sewerage services, toilets, wash basin and half of developing countries are living without sanitation facility. It is observed usually that the latrine makes people uncomfortable reluctant to talk about sanitation is the main reason. Proper sanitation increases the life expectancy for 15 years as observed by doctors.
After 1950 the population of the world is increased double but the use of water is increased six folds and 80% is required only for the agriculture. Water used in wash rooms is more than use for drinking water.
